The Spanish Government promotes the One Health approach to protect human, animal and environmental health

The Spanish Government continues to strengthen its commitment to public health and environmental sustainability by implementing the One Health approach: a common strategy that integrates human, animal and environmental health under a shared vision.

The vision is clear: there can be no human health without a healthy and balanced planet. And this is the principle that guides the project: to improve prevention against global health risks and promote a coordinated response to collective threats, such as zoonosis, antimicrobial resistance or the effects of climate change.

The ministries of Health, Agriculture, Fisheries and Food; Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge; and Science, Innovation and Universities are participating in this initiative. They are all working together on activities such as monitoring communicable diseases, reducing the inappropriate use of antibiotics, and improving water and air quality.

As part of the plan, they have been reinforced, in addition, the systems for early warning and is working on a15> on the development of digital tools for the detection of risks. The country thus contributes to strengthening international cooperation and fulfilling the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda.
